Jeff Sebo, How we can improve our moral level1. We can cultivate humility about moral standing. Moral history is full
of unacceptable exclusion and hierarchy. And mistakes of the past are always clearer than the mistakes of the present.
2. We can cultivate humility about our impacts. In our age, many individual and collective actions have but a small chance of producing a large impact and we lack the ability to naturally track these impacts. 3. We can accept that we have a duty to help distant others where possible. We should cultivate empathy for distant others and build supporting personal habits and shared structures for this support. 4. We can work to improve our impacts that we are able to do at least some good for at least some humans and nonhumans in the short term, in the long term we should build the knowledge, power, and political will to do more good for more humans and nonhumans. 23.02.2025 |
