Bertelsmann Stiftung, Twelve Stars Intitiative (editor), Philosophers Chart a Course for Europe, Gütersloh 2019The title refers to the twelve stars in Europe's flag. More than 24
philosophers present in 24 articles their proposals for what Europe should do next. The contributors are prominent
political philosophers of today. The philosophers call for schemes that can be implemented now for Europe's sake.
The chapter's headings for the short, concise and dedicated articles are these: European Solidarity, Europe and its
Money, Europe's Rules, Europe and the World and Europe's Constitution. The structure of the articles is as follows:
Proposal, Motivation, Reasoning pro Proposal, Objections. Each article proceded an online discussion in which the
philosophers were confronted with objections which becomes at last part of the essays. The suggestions are wide
reaching from introducing a European
Memory Day , European Union should protect its people before its banks, Europe
should end factory farming, Making Brexit Rerversible to The project of freedom: Unity in diversity.
I evaluate the articles as quite comprehensible and the used language as not too difficult. Many proposals seem to be attractive to me. On all accounts they promote political discussion in favour for a strong European Union and try to regain popularity which seems to be fading in the last years (Anti-European populists). Inspiring, motivating, encouraging and catching for European enthusiasm. I enjoyed reading! |
